DAILY UPDATE

ChatGPT still leads the AI race, but rivals are growing fast as AI spreads into everyday apps.
The latest Consumer AI Top 100 report from Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) shows that ChatGPT remains the most used AI tool in the world. However, new data shows strong growth from competitors and a bigger role for traditional apps that now include AI features.
ChatGPT passed 900M weekly users, staying far ahead of competitors. But tools like Claude and Gemini saw their paid subscriptions grow over 200% in the past year.
The ranking now includes AI powered consumer apps such as CapCut, Canva, Notion, and Grammarly, showing how AI is spreading into everyday software people already use.
The report highlights three separate AI ecosystems forming around the world: Western, Chinese, and Russian, with sanctions pushing countries to build their own local AI alternatives.
This matters because the report gives one of the clearest signals of real AI adoption. Even though ChatGPT still dominates, the rapid growth of competitors and AI features inside popular apps shows that the fight to become peopleβs default AI tool is getting much more competitive.

TODAYβS HIGHLIGHT

Perplexity launches a local AI agent system that runs on a Mac mini, offering a more secure alternative to OpenClaw.
Perplexity AI has introduced Personal Computer, a new local AI agent system that runs on a dedicated Mac mini. The system lets its Comet assistant access files, apps, and sessions directly on the device.
The Comet AI assistant can keep ongoing access to files, apps, and sessions on a Mac mini and can be managed remotely from anywhere.
The system is designed as a safer alternative to OpenClaw AI agent, with features like activity tracking, approval for sensitive actions, and a kill switch to shut it down instantly.
The platform connects to 20 AI models and more than 400 apps, includes Slack integration for teams, and early access is available to Perplexity Max subscribers through a waitlist.
This shows how local AI agents are quickly becoming more practical and secure. With tools like Personal Computer and OpenClaw running on devices such as the Mac mini, always on AI assistants that manage tasks and apps may soon become common for both individual users and companies.
